deer2013HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee’s annual whitetail deer hunts began Nov.20, with the start of the archery season.

In Scott County, tens of thousands of acres of public land is open for hunters. The North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area encompasses 145,000 acres in eastern Scott County. It is Tennessee’s largest WMA and the second-largest piece of contiguous public land in the state, trailing only the Cherokee National Forest. On the opposite side of Scott County, the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area encompasses 125,000 acres. It is one of the few national park units in America where hunting is allowed.
