Knoxville named one of’s Best Places to Retire has ranked Knoxville No. 2 on its 2014 list of Best Places to Retire.

Knoxville offers access to affordable and quality health care, practical cost of living, retiree-friendly businesses and services, and several amenities to help keep residents active, the website says.

Ranking at No. 1 was Springfield, Missouri. Rounding out the top five were Bellevue, Wash.; Largo, Fla.; and Wheat Ridge, Colo. editors used data from Esri and the County Health Rankings to find cities with access to a large number of hospitals and doctors and yet still have low health-care costs. Housing affordability measured by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developmentā€™s Location Affordability Index was taken into account. Several measures including overall cost of living, natural amenities, climate, number of golf courses, walk score, and crime rate were selected from overall Best Places to Live metrics with special attention to specific concerns of seniors and baby boomers.
